Universal Careers students stress healthy lifestyle

Moving medical equipment, lifting and transporting unconscious patients is a difficult job. Even more difficult if you're not in shape.

For a class of 20 Universal Careers EMT/paramedic students, their commitment to personal health is second only to their commitment to the health of others.

The students at this leading EMT/paramedic training organization know that the demands of the job are tough and they are willing to keep themselves in shape to meet the physical demands.

“I know I could be running up stairs with heavy equipment to save someone's life, or I could be moving a patient to an ambulance or helicopter to get them to the hospital. So making sure that I get in shape now and maintain it while I am working is important. That's why we all have decided to put in the effort to exercise during the training program and to stress the need for diet and nutrition whenever we are out in in-field classwork,” said UC student Richard Martinez.

Students are introduced to the idea of diet and exercise in their coursework. The instructors, who are licensed professional paramedics, not only teach the skills necessary for the job but also the real life demands and pressures EMT/paramedics face. This includes being able to stay healthy for the hours and stresses of the Emergency Medical Services field.

Universal Careers works to make sure students are fully prepared for life as an EMT/paramedic. From the intensive coursework to help finding employment, the school is there for its students. This includes things like health and nutrition.

With a hectic yet rewarding career in health care, EMT/paramedics are in demand and the field will grow over the next decade. So Universal Careers students will be prepared for all aspects of the job.
